A ONE-DAY PRACTICAL WORKSHOP FOR PORTRAIT ARTISTS LOOKING TO CREATE THEIR OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC REFERENCES.

You’ll learn how to use techniques drawn from portrait photography to create visually compelling images; exploring lighting, angles, camera techniques and storytelling through composition.
The session covers how to work with both phone and digital cameras, communicate with and direct your sitter, and set a scene that conveys mood and character. You’ll also discover ways of understanding tones and colour through accessible software to refine your references, giving you the confidence and skills to photograph models for your future artworks.
You will need to bring along a phone camera as well as a digital camera if you have access to one.
Free refreshments all day. Please bring a packed lunch - or there are shops/cafes nearby.
Lorna Allan...
...is a photographer and art director whose personal work explores social issues through creative, participatory projects. With a background in photography and film, she connects real stories and visuals, often collaborating with communities to produce conscientious, experience-led outcomes. Commercially as a photographer she specialises in working collaboratively with other creatives on portraiture, and creatively directs exhibition and editorial designs from concept through to production and delivery. Some recent projects include “Legends’ National Portrait Gallery, Goodwood Revival, Art of Participation, Worthing.

Come and join us for a unique life drawing experience with a wonderful DUO … a collaboration between Frankie Cluney @floorlengthfrankie and Tom Formalin @tomformalin.
This duo have collaborated, working and playing together for 26 years! They will be exploring their parallel artistic practices this evening.
The evening will be full of mixed poses and will the inspiration for our pencils, paints, crayons… whatever materials you bring along! Be sure to bring plenty of paper and materials to work with.
There will be chairs available and a few small tables. You are welcome to bring your own drawing board and easel if you use one.
Tickets are limited to 20 so please book now to avoid disappointment.
